Configuring macOS Dock Policies in Swif

Swif allows administrators to customize and control the Dock on managed macOS devices effectively. You can define application visibility, behavior, and interactions with Hot Corners to align with your organizational needs.

Creating a Dock Policy

Follow these steps to configure and deploy a Dock policy:

  1. Log into your Swif Console.

  2. Navigate to Device Management > Policies.

  3. Click Create Policy, select Dock Policy, and enter a descriptive name and optional description.

  4. Configure the following Dock settings:

Dock Settings

  • Position Immutable: Locks Dock position, preventing user modification.

  • Static Apps: Define apps to always appear in the Dock.

Hot Corners

Configure actions for each corner of the screen by selecting actions and optional modifier keys (e.g., Command, Control, Shift, Option).

  • Bottom Left Hot Corner Action

  • Bottom Left Hot Corner Modifier

  • Bottom Right Hot Corner Action

  • Bottom Right Hot Corner Modifier

  • Top Left Hot Corner Action

  • Top Left Hot Corner Modifier

  • Top Right Hot Corner Action

  • Top Right Hot Corner Modifier

Available actions include options such as "No Action," "Mission Control," "Application Windows," "Desktop," and more.

  1. Click Continue and assign the policy to desired devices or groups.


Example Configuration

An example Dock policy may set "System Settings" as a static app and lock Dock position to maintain consistency across all devices.


Deploying the Dock Policy

Once configured:

  1. Click Assign.

  2. Choose the relevant devices or device groups.

  3. Save to apply immediately.


FAQs

Can users change the Dock after applying a policy?

No, if the Position Immutable setting is enabled, users cannot modify the Dock.

Do Hot Corner settings affect existing user preferences?

Yes, applying a Dock policy overrides existing user Hot Corner settings.
