Enrolling Apple Devices to Apple Business Manager (ABM) with Apple Configurator

Updated today

This guide will walk you through the steps to enroll Apple devices into Apple Business Manager (ABM) or Apple School Manager (ASM) using Apple Configurator.

Prerequisites

  1. An Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager account.

  2. Devices to be enrolled should be factory reset or new.

Note:
When a device is assigned or moved to an MDM server in Apple Business Manager (ABM), the update is not immediate. It may take 15–20 minutes for the assignment to propagate to Swif.

Once the device information is received, Swif will automatically assign the appropriate ABM profile. After the profile is applied, the device will enroll in Swif during the next device wipe or setup (ADE flow).

Steps to Enroll Apple Devices Using Apple Configurator

Step 1: Open Apple Configurator

  1. Download the Apple Configurator app on an iOS/iPadOS device.

  2. Use the Apple Configurator app on your factory reset or new Mac or iOS/iPadOS device to bring it to ABM.

  3. When a Mac is started or rebooted, bring your iPhone close to the Mac, then do one of the following:

    • Scan the image that appears in Setup Assistant.

    • Click Pair Manually in the lower-left corner of the Setup Assistant, then tap Manual Pairing in Apple Configurator and enter the six-digit code that appears.

    • For more information, visit the Apple Configurator app documentation.

  4. Once complete, the device will appear in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.

Step 2: Link Your Apple Business Manager (ABM) Account With Swif

  1. Sign in to your Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager account.

  2. Select or create a Mobile Device Management (MDM) server for the devices.

  3. Assign the device to the server.
