User Account Permission Sync at Device Group

Updated this week

Overview

The User Account Permission Sync feature allows administrators to automatically enforce a consistent user account permission level (such as "Standard" or "Admin") across all user accounts on devices within a specific device group. This ensures that all users on those devices have the correct permissions, improving security and compliance while reducing manual management overhead.

For the latest updates and details, see the official changelog:
Set permission to all standard or all admin on devices

What Does This Feature Do?

  • Automatic Permission Enforcement:
When enabled for a device group, Swif will automatically set all user accounts (except the Swif admin account) on every device in that group to the specified permission level (currently "Standard").

  • Continuous Sync:
The system regularly checks and enforces the selected permission level, ensuring that any changes made outside of Swif are reverted to maintain compliance.

  • Centralized Management:
Administrators can manage user permissions for entire groups of devices from a single interface, rather than configuring each device individually.

How to Use User Account Permission Sync

1. Enable During Device Group Creation

  • When creating a new device group, you will see an option in the Additional Settings section to enable "User Account Permission Sync."

  • Toggle the setting to choose the permission level for all user accounts in this group.

2. Enable or Edit for Existing Device Groups

  • Navigate to the device group you wish to manage.

  • Go to the Edit Device Group page.

  • Find the "User Account Permission Sync" option and choose a permission level.

  • Currently, the permission level is set to "Standard" by default, and the selection input is between "Standard" and "Admin".

3. What Happens Next?

  • Once enabled, Swif will:

    • Set all user accounts (except the Swif admin) on all devices in the group to "Standard" permission.

    • Regularly check and reapply this setting to ensure ongoing compliance.

Example Scenario

Suppose you have a device group for your Accounting department. By enabling User Account Permission Sync and setting it to "Standard," all users who sign into any device in this group will automatically have standard (non-admin) permissions. This prevents unauthorized privilege escalation and ensures a secure, consistent environment.
