Apple Menu Bar Policy

Updated yesterday

The Apple Menu Bar Policy ensures that important wireless connectivity indicators—Bluetooth and Wi-Fi—are always visible in the macOS menu bar. This policy improves both user awareness and organizational security by making the device’s connectivity state clearly visible at all times.

Overview

The menu bar icons for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi provide quick insight into a Mac’s wireless status. By enforcing these indicators to remain visible:

  • Users can immediately see when Bluetooth is on, discoverable, or connected

  • Users can check Wi-Fi connectivity and switch networks more easily

  • Security teams gain improved visibility into wireless interfaces

  • Organizations can comply with security and monitoring requirements

This policy can be applied to both BYOD and company-owned macOS devices.

Use Cases

Security Awareness

Users can quickly detect if Bluetooth is active when it should not be, or if Wi-Fi connectivity changes unexpectedly.

Wireless Activity Monitoring

Makes it easier to verify:

  • Whether Bluetooth is discoverable

  • If the device is connected to peripherals

  • What Wi-Fi network the device is using

Compliance Benefits

Many security frameworks require organizations to maintain visibility into wireless interfaces.
This policy helps satisfy such requirements by ensuring users can clearly see connectivity status.

Configuration Fields

This policy contains two configuration options in the Swif.ai UI:

1. Enable Bluetooth

  • Description: Forces the Bluetooth icon to appear in the macOS menu bar

  • Security Benefit: Users can see when Bluetooth is turned on, actively connected, or discoverable

2. Enable Wi-Fi
