This article provides a comprehensive guide for administrators and end-users on managing and installing Volume Purchase Program (VPP) applications through the Swifteam self-service app store.
Overview
Swifteam now supports the deployment of VPP applications within the self-service app store. This feature enables organizations to sync their application inventory from Apple Business Manager (ABM) and make specific apps available for on-demand installation by employees on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices.
Key Features
Inventory Sync: Automatically synchronize VPP application licenses from Apple Business Manager.
Self-Service Mode: Approve VPP applications for the team catalog, allowing users to install them at their convenience.
Cross-Platform Support: Unified management and deployment for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.
License Tracking: Real-time visibility into license availability and usage across the organization.
Administrator Guide (Web App)
1. Syncing VPP Inventory
To populate your application list with VPP licenses:
Navigate to Software > Apple (VPP).
Click "Sync with Apple".
The list will update with all applications purchased via the linked VPP token, displaying the app name, platform, version, and total licenses.
2. Approving Applications for Self-Service
To make a VPP app available in the self-service store:
Select the desired application from the VPP list.
Open the action menu and select "Approve for Store Catalog".
In the configuration modal, set the Installation Type to "Self-Service".
(Optional) Assign the application to specific Device Groups to restrict visibility to relevant teams or departments.
3. Monitoring Installation Status
Administrators can track the progress of user-initiated installations in the Software > Managed Apps view. The status will transition through the following stages:
Available: The app is assigned but not yet installed.
Installing: The installation command has been sent to the device.
Installed: The application is successfully installed and licensed.
User Guide (Desktop & Mobile App)
Installing Applications on macOS
Open the Swif Desktop App.
Navigate to the "Apps" or "Self-Service" tab.
Locate the desired application and click "Install".
If no licenses are available, the button will display as "Unavailable".
Installing Applications on iOS/iPadOS
Open the Swif App on your mobile device.
Navigate to the "Software" section.
Select the application and initiate the installation.
Important Notes
Unassignment vs. Uninstallation: Removing an application from the Self-Service manifest hides it from the user portal but does not automatically uninstall it from the device.
Platform Compatibility: Ensure the VPP application supports the target operating system (e.g., some apps may be iOS-only).
License Recovery: If a license is removed, the application remains on the device, but the license can be restored from the "Installed Applications" page if needed.
