Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment (ADE)

Updated this week

We implemented Swif MDM as an Enterprise Application with Mobility MDM features under Azure. This supports automatic enrollment, which is an Entra ID solution.

If you want to use Swif's Entra ID solution, please continue below to enable Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment with Swif. There is no difference between Swif's Entra ID solution and Swif's silent installer. Both can help to auto-enroll Existing and New Windows computers.

What Is Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment?

Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment is a Windows provisioning service that helps IT teams:

  • Automatically enroll devices during Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE)

  • Eliminate manual device imaging and setup

  • Enforce security and compliance policies from first boot

  • Support zero-touch deployments for remote employees

With Swif.ai, Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment devices are enrolled directly into Swif.ai for device management.

Prerequisites

Before setting up Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment with Swif.ai, ensure the following requirements are met.

Supported Devices

  • Windows 10 or later

  • Devices must support Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment

Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

Your organization must use Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) to support Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment.

Minimum License Requirement

To enable MDM mobility (MDM and WIP) in Microsoft Entra ID, the minimum required license is: Microsoft Entra ID P2

This license is required to:

  • Enable MDM mobility settings

  • Allow third-party MDM providers (such as Swif.ai)

  • Support automated enrollment workflows

Start a Free Trial

You can start a free trial of Microsoft Entra ID P2 from the Azure Portal:

  1. Sign in to the Azure Portal

  2. Go to Microsoft Entra ID

  3. Navigate to Mobility (MDM and WIP)

  4. Start the Entra ID P2 free trial

  5. Enable MDM mobility for your users

Note: Microsoft Intune is not required to use Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment with Swif.ai.

Steps to connect

To connect your purchased Windows laptop with automated enrollment, please follow these steps:

Step 1: CDW partnership link (Optional)

(Optional) Add this partnership (with CDW) by clicking this link. Note: A user with Global Admin permission is required to accept the relationship (An error will show up on this link if they are not an admin.)

Step 2: Connect Azure to Swif.ai

Connect Azure on Swif's Settings > Integrations page:

Click Connect to authorize your Azure account with Swif.

Step 3: Configure the Azure Mobility (MDM and WIP)

That's all on the Swif side. Let's move on to configure the Azure Mobility (MDM and WIP).

Key Notes

  • Microsoft Intune is not required: Microsoft Automated Device Enrollment operates independently of Intune, so utilizing Intune as the primary method for device enrollment isn't necessary. However, for those who wish to continue using Intune for initial device setup before transitioning to Swif, we offer a Silent Installer to facilitate seamless enrollment into Swif.

  • Microsoft Entra ID P2 is required to enable MDM mobility

  • CDW or reseller partnerships are optional

  • Internet access is required during initial device setup

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Confirm Entra ID P2 license is active

  • Ensure the device hardware hash is uploaded correctly

  • Confirm the device has internet access during OOBE
