Overview
Swif Browser Security brings Swif's browser protection to Firefox on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It works the same way as in Chrome: it helps you see which SaaS apps and AI services your users visit, block the ones you don't allow, and catch unapproved sign-ups.
Swif Browser Security was previously called the Swif Firefox Extension.

Allow screen capture for team access reading
In Firefox, team access reading needs screen-capture permission. Each user must click the Swif Browser Security icon in Firefox's toolbar, and grant the permission when asked. Without it, the extension can't read permission tables.

Install Swif Browser Security
For your whole organization (recommended)
Use the Firefox extension policy for each platform to install Swif Browser Security automatically. See Firefox extension policies below, and Deploy Swif Browser Security & Agentic Security Organization-Wide.
On one device
Use this to test Swif Browser Security, or to install it on a single device:
In Firefox, go to the Swif Browser Security download page, and open its page on Firefox Add-ons.
Click Add to Firefox.
When asked, click Add to confirm its permissions.
Look for the Swif Browser Security icon in Firefox's toolbar. If you don't see it, click the Extensions icon (the puzzle piece), and pin it.
Click the icon, and sign in with your Swif account, or create one.
Get started
Set up your rules. In Swif, set up blocklists, allowlists, and Shadow IT alerts.
Ask users to allow screen capture, so team access reading works.
Review activity. Check your Shadow IT dashboard for site visits, flagged sites, and blocked sign-ups.
Firefox extension policies
Swif has a Firefox extension policy for each platform:
Their main fields:
Field | Display name | Type | What it does | Example |
| Swif Extension | Boolean | Turns Swif Browser Security on or off |
|
| Install | List | Extensions to install automatically, by URL or file path |
|
| Uninstall | List | Extension IDs to remove, if found |
|
| Locked | List | Extension IDs users can't turn off or remove |
|
Apply a policy
In Swif, go to Device Management > Policies, then select Create new policy > Configure a Policy.
Select the Firefox extension policy for your platform.
Turn on Swif Extension, and fill in Install, Uninstall, and Locked as needed.
Save the policy, and assign it to your devices.
Check that the extension is installed, using the device's details in Swif.
Troubleshooting
Team access reading doesn't collect anything
The user hasn't granted screen-capture permission. Ask them to click the Swif Browser Security icon in Firefox, and allow it.
The extension doesn't work as expected
Check that it has the permissions it needs. Go to about:addons, find Swif Browser Security, and check its permissions.
The extension wasn't installed by the policy
Check that the policy is assigned to the device, with Swif Extension on.
Restart Firefox on the device. The extension may need a restart to activate.
