The Apple AirPrint Policy allows administrators to centrally configure and deploy AirPrint printer settings to managed Apple devices, including macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.
This policy ensures that users can easily access approved network printers without requiring manual setup or local configuration.
Overview
AirPrint is Apple’s native printing technology that enables driverless printing across macOS, iPhone, and iPad.
With the Apple AirPrint Policy, IT administrators can preconfigure one or more AirPrint printers so they appear automatically on the device, ensuring seamless printing in controlled environments such as offices, schools, and shared workspaces.
This policy is especially useful in organizations where users must print through approved printers only, or where printer configuration must remain consistent across the organization.
Requirements
macOS 10.10+
iOS 7.0+
iPadOS 7.0+
Device must be enrolled in Swif.ai MDM

How to Configure the Policy
Go to Swif Admin Console → Policies → Create New Policy.

Click Add under the Printers section to create a new AirPrint configuration.
Enter the following:
IP Address / Hostname of the AirPrint device
Resource Path associated with the printer
Add additional printers as needed.
Click Continue and assign the policy to selected devices or device groups.
Review and confirm to activate the policy.
Once deployed, the configured AirPrint printers automatically appear for end-users in the Print dialog on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices.
Best Practices
Ensure printers are reachable over the network for all managed users.
Use hostnames instead of IP addresses when printers receive dynamic IPs.
Test the resource path directly on one device before rolling out to groups.
Pair this policy with Apple Network or Wi-Fi policies to ensure devices are always connected to the correct network for printing.
Compliance and IT Benefits
Eliminates manual printer setup for users
Ensures consistent and standardized printing configuration
Reduces help desk tickets related to printer installation
Improves workflow efficiency in shared environments
Maintains controlled access to approved printers only
