How to Configure the BYOD Prompt and BYOD Code

This guide covers how admins can configure the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) experience during installation — including the option to skip the BYOD prompt entirely, or how to set and share the BYOD enrollment PIN when the prompt is enabled.

Show or Hide the BYOD Prompt During Installation

Admins can now control whether users see the BYOD prompt during the Swif installer setup. This is useful for organizations where all devices are company-owned and users don't need to identify their device as BYOD.

To configure this setting:

  1. Go to Organization Settings → Team.

  2. Under the Device section, select BYOD Enrollment.

  3. You'll see a toggle labeled "Show BYOD Prompt During Installation" with the description: Control whether users are prompted to identify their device as BYOD during installer setup.

  4. Toggle ON (default): Users will be prompted to enter a BYOD code during installation. Follow the steps below to set up and share the code.

  5. Toggle OFF: The BYOD step is completely hidden from the installer. Users will go straight from Basic Information to Permissions without seeing any BYOD prompt.

Note: This setting applies at the team/organization level and affects all new installations for that team.

If the BYOD Prompt Is Enabled

When the "Show BYOD Prompt During Installation" toggle is ON, users will be asked to enter a BYOD PIN during enrollment. Follow these steps to set it up:

Step 1 — Set Up the BYOD PIN

Set a BYOD PIN (BYOD code) in the admin panel. This PIN is required for BYOD enrollment and is shared across your organization. If you've never changed it, the default is typically 0101.

Step 2 — Send the BYOD PIN to the User

Share the BYOD PIN with the user via your preferred channel (email, Slack, etc.). If you send an enrollment email from Swif, include the PIN in the instructions so the user has it when prompted.

Step 3 — User Enters the BYOD PIN During Enrollment

During enrollment, the installer will prompt the user for the BYOD PIN. The user enters the current PIN and continues. If they see an "invalid code" error, confirm they're using the latest PIN configured in the admin panel — PIN changes apply org-wide.

After entering the BYOD PIN, macOS may prompt for additional permissions so the Swif agent can function properly. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install.
